Mayor Allen R. Sharp

Allen R. Sharp, the current Mayor of Star City, was born in Bridgeton, New Jersey. Before coming to the Morgantown area, he worked for the Georgia Pacific Company. In 1974, he and his wife Olga moved to Star City along with their son and two daughters.

He began his career in the local grocery business as the Produce Manager for the University Foods Foodland. The store has changed names and owners several times, but Allen has remained with the company up to its present day incarnation as BiLo Foods. He works there as the Food Services Manager.

Allen's political career began when he was elected to the position of Council Member in 1989. He served in that capacity for two years and then was elected to the position of Recorder, an office he held for two terms. During that time, he also served as the Chairman of the Finance Committee, as well as serving on the Board of Appeals and the Glass Festival Advertising Committee. In 1999, he was again elected to the position of Council Member. Following the sudden passing of Mayor Edith Barill, Allen was appointed Mayor in 2001. He then ran successfully for Mayor in June of 2001, again in June of 2003, and again for his current term in June of 2005.

As Mayor, Allen has had the opportunity to become involved in many local organizations such as the Morgantown North Rotary Club, the Morgantown Convention and Visitor's bureau where he serves as Treasurer, and the Council of Governments. He has also been instrumental in the formation and continuation of the Star City Vision 2020 Common Interest Group.

Allen and Olga enjoy spending time with their seven grandchildren and visiting friends and family in New Jersey.
